Harold W. Munson, 96, of Fairfield and formerly of the Lockridge community passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024, surrounded by his family in Fairfield.

Horold was born on September 20, 1927, in Keosauqua, the son of Marion J. and Hattie Florence (Webber) Munson. Harold was united in marriage to Mary Irene Doud on December 28, 1952, at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2008. He joined the United States Army on January 16, 1953, and was honorably discharged on January 14, 1955, serving during the Korean Conflict. Harold worked at Rockwell Standard in Fairfield and farmed in the Round Prairie community. He was a member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Fairfield Camp of Gideon’s International, and Round Prairie Baptist Church, where he was active for 42 years. Ha and Mary later joined First Baptist Church in Fairfield where he served on church council, Mission and Evangelism board, and as a deacon. Harold and Mary served as camp managers at Dayton Oaks Camp for 6 years. Harold served as a township trustee and township clerk of Round Prairie Township for many years as well.

Harold is survived by his son, Dan Munson and his family, Don (Patty) Munson and their children Bryce (Halie) Munson, Wyatt, Weslynn, Alayna Renae, Luke Munson and his children, Jorden and Isaac, Cassir (Grant) Grober, Maralee Munson, Kelley Munson, Aimee Munson, Mike (Deanna) Munson and their son, Parker, his daughter, Sue (Dwight) Geary, and their children, Josh (Ashlynn) Geary and Caleb (Megan) Geary, and his son, Ted Munson.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary, his daughter-in-law, Renae Munson, and his sisters, Grace McKee, Eva Wolfe, and Marjorie Linn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Harold’s memory may be directed to First Baptist Church in Fairfield or to Dayton Oaks Camp.
